Alumni & Friends

Giving

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Philosophy. The generous support and continued involvement of our alumni and friends allow us to sustain a high level of quality in our teaching and research.

Charitable gifts support several key initiatives of the department:

  • The Philosophy Today Lecture Series
  • Sponsorship of students and faculty members for symposia and conferences (e.g., travel and registration costs)
  • Support for the activities of our student organizations
  • Scholarships for our outstanding students

We hope to grow our program and increase financial assistance to students over the next several years — and to do that, we need the continued (and increased) involvement from our alumni and friends. Please consider making a gift to the Department of Philosophy today.

Levels of Giving

The Department of Philosophy invites gifts at any level:

  • The Anselm Level. I give to the Department of Philosophy that amount than which the department hath not yet conceived — $_________.
  • The Socrates Level. $5,000. I will sponsor a Philosophy Today speaker; please include my name on the poster for next year’s series. Also, I hereby contribute to the department’s commitment to research and excellence in undergraduate education in philosophy.
  • The Philosophy Today Level. $2,000. I will sponsor a Philosophy Today speaker; please include my name on the poster for next year’s series.
  • The Aristotle Level. $1,000. Confident that, by nature, all human beings desire to know, I hereby contribute to the department’s commitment to research and excellence in undergraduate education in philosophy.
  • The David Hume Level. $500. Pledging to commit all sophistry and illusion to the flames, I hereby contribute to the department’s commitment to research and excellence in undergraduate education in philosophy.
  • The Wittgenstein Level. $250. Noting that we must pass over in silence that about which we cannot speak, I hereby contribute to the department’s commitment to research and excellence in undergraduate education in philosophy.
  • The Bertrand Russell Level. $100. I hereby contribute to the Department of Philosophy with confidence that studying philosophy both enriches our intellectual imagination and diminishes the dogmatic assurance that closes the mind against speculation.
  • The David Lewis Level. $50. There is a possible world in which I do not contribute to the Department of Philosophy, but that world is not this world.
  • The Existentialist Level. $25. Struggling with angst, I nonetheless support the department’s research and education efforts.
  • The Nihilist Level. I do not make a donation and would like my name removed from the contact list for the Department of Philosophy.
